Mobile phone network operators need to know where their subscribers mobile...

1) Mobile phone network operators need to know where their subscribers mobile phones (hencetheir users) are located. Explain why this is bad for users. Now give reasons why this is goodfor users.
2)Imagine that you have trained your dog to carry a box of three 8-mm tapes. (When your disk lls up, you consider that an emergency.) These tapes each contain 7 gigabytes. The dog cantravel to your side, wherever you may be, at 18 km/hour. For what range of distances doesBernie have a higher data rate than a transmission line whose data rate (excluding overhead)is 150 Mbps? How does your answer change if (i) Bernies speed is doubled; (ii) each tapecapacity is doubled; (iii) the data rate of the transmission line is doubled.

1) Mobile phone network operators need to know where their subscribers mobile phones (hence their users) are located. Explain why this is bad for users. Now give reasons why this is good for users.Answer: This is definitely is a bad news for few mobile users especially for those privacy is a big concern. It is easier for mobile phone network operators to trace the mobile phones of their subscribers and their respective location paths because the service providers may be running the call establishment and call streaming on the telecommunication networks created using circuit switched networks. On such networks, mobile phone calls get established from the calling party to the called party using a single static signaling connection which when once gets allocated, remains the same throughout the duration of that call. The call signals that travel along this connection also follow the same network route always. This entire functioning lets the mobile service providers keep track of the entire call signaling route and hence the whereabouts and streaming information of the subscribers. Many users may not wish to share their streaming data i.e. their data, voice or media exchange with the service providers and not just their physical location details. This surely makes the subscribers unhappy. On the other hand, with the service providers that intend to use telecommunication networks created using packet switched networks, the services get greatly enhanced for the subscribers. The subscribers are able to enjoy call continuity and many other advanced telecom services as the call establishment and call streaming is done in form of packets that travel on connectionless networks. The complete call information such as call signaling and call streaming can be transferred from one cell tower to another when the subscribers are roaming. The calling party and the called party are kept connected throughout with the help of soft handshakes. In this manner, the dynamicity offered by mobile phone network operators can also prove to be a boom for their subscribers.
2) Imagine that you have trained your dog to carry a box of three 8-mm tapes. (When your disk fills up, you consider that an emergency.) These tapes each contain 7 gigabytes. The dog can travel to your side, wherever you may be, at 18 km/hour. For what range of distances does Bernie have a higher data rate than a transmission line whose data rate (excluding overhead) is 150 Mbps? How does your answer change if (i) Bernies speed is doubled; (ii) each tape capacity is doubled; (iii) the data rate of the transmission line is doubled.Answer: The capacity of the dog is to carry 21 gigabytes or 168 gigabits at a speed of 18 km/hour i.e. 0.005 km/sec.If distance D has to be travelled, time taken to travel it = D/0.005 sec = 200D seconds. Therefore, data rate = 168/200D Gbps = 840/D Mbps. When the D < 5.6 kms, the dog has a higher rate than the transmission line.
i)When the dog's speed is doubled, (168 gigabits/100D) will be greater than (150/1024D). Therefore, D > 11.46.ii) When the capacity of each tape is doubled, (2*168 gigabits/100D) will be greater than (150/1024D). Therefore, D > 11.46.iii) When the data rate of the transmission is doubled, (168 gigabits/200D) will be greater than (2*150/1024D). Therefore, D > 2.87.
