Why is the problem of bringing light to people who don’t have access to reliable electricity not being tackled in a meaningful way by a large lighting company, such as GE (General Electric) or Philips?static/image/hrline/1.gif
There are millions of people all across the world that does not have access to electricity due to economic reasons. These people do not have the money to buy the electricity. In such situation, government provides some kind of help to such people but governments also have various limitations. It cannot help each individual. Companies such as GE (General Electric) or Philips are public firms that generally emphasis on shareholder returns. The main objective of these companies is to make profits. The large lighting companies may forecast that they cannot obtain a profit out of it and simply not consider the market segment as worthy of an investment.
